Armenia is not part of the Schengen Area and operates its own immigration system. Many nationalities can visit visa-free for short tourist stays, while others use an eVisa or a visa on arrival, depending on their nationality. Japanese nationals, for example, can stay visa-free for up to 180 days per year. Rules can change, so check the official Armenian and your own government sources before you travel.

Arrival cards, health declarations, and other preparations

Pre-arrival procedure — Armenia e-Visa: nationalities that are not visa-exempt can apply online on the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal evisa.mfa.am; a 21-day single-entry e-Visa is reported around AMD 3,000 (~USD 8) and a 120-day around AMD 15,000 (~USD 38), processed within about 3 working days. Many nationalities are visa-free, so check eligibility first. Beware paid look-alike sites.

Cash Import Limits
Declaration-free limits and procedures for excess amounts
If you enter or leave Armenia carrying cash of about USD 10,000 or more (or the equivalent in other currencies or monetary instruments), you must declare it to customs. Complete a written customs declaration when required. Failure to declare can lead to fines or seizure, so keep proof of the source of large sums.

Most travellers arrive at Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport (EVN). As Armenia is outside the Schengen Area, you go through Armenian passport control on arrival and departure.
