Azerbaijan is not in the Schengen Area and runs its own entry system. Many nationalities can obtain an electronic visa (ASAN Visa) online for short tourist stays, often up to 30 days. Japanese nationals also need an ASAN Visa (e-visa). Requirements vary by nationality, so check the official ASAN Visa portal and your embassy before you travel.

Passport Conditions
Required validity period and blank pages
Your passport should generally be valid for the duration of your stay, and many travellers keep at least several months of validity to be safe. It should also have blank pages for stamps. Important: travellers with an Armenian visa or stamp, or a history of unauthorised travel to Nagorno-Karabakh, may be refused entry. Check the latest official rules before you travel.

Arrival cards, health declarations, and other preparations
Bring your passport and a printed or digital copy of your approved ASAN Visa (if required for your nationality). At the border you may be asked for supporting documents such as a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Have these ready to speed up entry.

Pre-arrival procedure — ASAN e-Visa: for eligible nationalities; single entry, 30 days stay. Apply on the only official portal evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before arrival (standard ~3 working days; urgent ~3 hours). Fee about US$30 (standard) / US$61 (urgent); the approved visa arrives by email. It cannot be obtained on arrival. Beware paid look-alike sites.

How to apply
- 1 Open the only official portal evisa.gov.az and start a new application (at least 3 working days before arrival).
- 2 Enter passport and personal details; upload the passport bio page.
- 3 Choose standard or urgent processing and enter travel details.
- 4 Review all entries and correct any errors.
- 5 Pay the fee by card and submit; note the reference.
- 6 Wait for the emailed approval and print/save it to show on arrival.

Cash Import Limits
