From Brunei International Airport (BWN), the city centre of Bandar Seri Begawan is a short drive away. The easiest options are a taxi, the Dart ride-hailing app or a hotel pickup. Public buses to the airport are limited, so most visitors arrange a car.

Public buses in Brunei run on limited routes and with limited frequency, mainly around Bandar Seri Begawan. There is no metro or rail network. Most residents drive their own cars, so for flexible travel a rental car or the Dart ride-hailing app is usually more practical.

Rechargeable transit IC cards are not common in Brunei, as there is no metro and only limited bus service. Pay bus fares in cash, and use the Dart app (which handles payment in the app) or a taxi for other trips. Carry small notes and coins.

Taxis exist in Brunei but are not numerous, so it helps to book ahead. The Dart ride-hailing app is available and convenient for calling a car and seeing the fare in advance. For water villages, water taxis (penambang) ferry passengers across the river.

A rental car is a practical way to get around Brunei, given the limited public transport. Traffic drives on the left. Roads are generally in good condition and fuel is inexpensive. Bring your driving licence (an International Driving Permit is commonly recommended) and check insurance terms.

Brunei is a small country, so travel between its districts is by road, most easily by car. The Temburong district is reached via the Temburong Bridge over Brunei Bay. There are also cross-border road links to neighbouring Malaysian regions on Borneo. There is no domestic rail network.

Because Brunei is small and compact, there are essentially no scheduled domestic flights; the country has a single main international airport (BWN). Travel within the country is by road. Flights matter mainly for international connections to and from Brunei.

For getting around Brunei, plan for a car-based trip: rent a car or use the Dart app, since buses are limited and there is no rail. Remember traffic drives on the left. Keep some cash for bus fares and water taxis, and try a water taxi (penambang) to visit the stilt village of Kampong Ayer.
