The UK is not in the Schengen area, so it has its own rules. Many visa-free nationalities now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for stays up to 6 months. Others need a Standard Visitor visa. Check your nationality before you travel.

Passport Conditions

For most visitors, your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay in the UK — there is no separate three-month rule like the Schengen area. If you use an ETA, it is linked to the passport you applied with, so travel on that same passport.

Pre-arrival procedure — UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation): required for visitors who do not need a visa for short stays (up to 6 months) and do not already hold UK immigration status; British and Irish citizens are exempt. Cash Import Limits
Declaration-free limits and procedures for excess amounts
You must declare £10,000 or more in cash when travelling between Great Britain and any other country (including EU). Separate rules apply for Northern Ireland. Declare online or to Border Force to avoid penalties.

Items that are strictly forbidden from import
Prohibited or restricted: illegal drugs, offensive weapons, counterfeit goods, and endangered species (CITES). Meat, dairy and many plant products from outside the UK are restricted. Declare anything you are unsure about.
