Kyrgyzstan uses 220V / 50Hz with Type C and Type F sockets (European two round pins). Bring a Type C/F adapter; travellers from 100–120V countries need a converter for devices that are not dual-voltage. Power can be less stable outside cities, so a surge protector is useful.

The main operators are Beeline, O! (Nur Telecom) and MegaCom. Prepaid SIMs are sold cheaply at the airport and operator shops, and registration requires your passport. Data bundles are generous and inexpensive. 4G/LTE is good in cities but can be patchy in mountain areas.

eSIM support is growing in Kyrgyzstan, and travel eSIM plans are a convenient option: buy one online before arrival and install it in minutes, with no shop visit. Availability from local operators is still expanding, so check current terms before relying on it.

Wi-Fi is common in hotels, cafés and restaurants in Bishkek and larger towns, though speeds vary. In remote mountain areas and around Issyk-Kul, connections can be limited, so a local SIM with data is handy for staying online. Use a VPN on public networks for sensitive tasks.

Kyrgyzstan generally has open internet access, and common apps and services — messaging, social media, maps and streaming — work normally. Occasional disruptions can occur, so it can be worth having a reputable VPN app installed as a backup.

Handy apps include ride-hailing such as Yandex Go and Namba Taxi in Bishkek, maps (2GIS is popular locally alongside Google Maps), translation, and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, which are widely used. Carry some cash, as card acceptance varies outside cities.

Kyrgyzstan's country code is +996. App-based calls (WhatsApp, Telegram and similar) are common and often the cheapest way to stay in touch. A local prepaid SIM makes domestic calls and mobile data affordable. Save numbers in full +996 format so they work from any network.
