Airport to City Access
Train, bus, taxi, and other options to the city center
From Luxembourg Airport (LUX, Findel), bus line 16 (and other lines) runs to the city centre and station in about 20–25 minutes. As all public transport in Luxembourg is free, the bus costs nothing. Taxis are also available at the terminal for a faster door-to-door option.

Public Transportation
Metro, bus, tram, and how to use them
Since March 2020, all public transport in Luxembourg — buses, the Luxtram tram in the capital and 2nd-class rail (CFL) — has been completely free, a world first. Just board with no ticket needed. Only 1st-class rail and cross-border journeys are chargeable.

IC Cards & Travel Passes
Discount passes and rechargeable transit cards
Because public transport is free, you generally do not need any ticket or travel card for buses, tram or 2nd-class trains. Cards such as the older mKaart mainly matter only if you use 1st-class rail or cross-border tickets, where you buy a normal fare instead.

Car Rental & Driving
License requirements and traffic rules
Luxembourg drives on the right. Roads are excellent and distances short, so a car is handy for exploring the countryside, castles and the Moselle wine region. An International Driving Permit alongside your licence is recommended for non-EU visitors. In the free-transport capital, however, a car is often unnecessary and parking can be limited.

Intercity Travel
Long-distance buses, trains, and ferries
The national rail operator CFL connects Luxembourg with Belgium, France and Germany, including through TGV and ICE high-speed services to Paris, Brussels and beyond. Domestic rail travel (2nd class) is free, so the country is easy to cross by train. Cross-border tickets are chargeable, so book those in advance.
