Romania uses 230V / 50Hz with Type C and Type F sockets (European two round pins). Bring a Type C/F adapter; travellers from 100–120V countries need a converter for devices that are not dual-voltage.

The main operators are Orange, Vodafone, Digi (RCS&RDS) and Telekom, and Romania is known for very fast mobile data. Prepaid SIMs are sold at shops, kiosks and supermarkets; you may need an ID to register. EU visitors can use their home plan at no extra cost ("roam like at home").

eSIM travel plans are a convenient option: buy one online before arrival and install it in minutes, with no physical SIM or shop visit. EU visitors may simply use home roaming instead.

Wi-Fi is widely available and fast in hotels, cafés, restaurants and on public transport, and Romania has some of the fastest internet in the world. Use a VPN on public networks for sensitive tasks like banking.

Romania has an open internet with no significant restrictions or censorship, and speeds are very fast. All standard apps and services — messaging, social media, maps and streaming — work normally.

Handy apps include STB and Moovit for Bucharest public transport, CFR for national rail, ride-hailing like Bolt and Uber in cities, plus maps, translation and payment apps. Contactless payment is widely accepted.

Romania's country code is +40 and the single emergency number is 112. App-based calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime and similar) are common, and EU roaming lets EU visitors call normally. Save numbers in full +40 format so they work from any network.
