From Copenhagen Airport (CPH/Kastrup), the metro and trains run directly into the city, reaching the centre in about 15 minutes. The M2 metro line links the airport with the city centre, while regional trains also serve Copenhagen Central. Buy tickets with an app or a contactless card.

Public transport in Denmark is excellent. Copenhagen has a driverless metro, S-trains and buses, all coordinated under DOT (Din Offentlige Transport). Services are clean and punctual, and tickets are integrated across the network. Buy tickets via an app or a contactless card rather than paying cash on board.

Rejsekort is the nationwide travel smart card, valid on metro, trains and buses across Denmark. Tap in when you start and tap out when you finish so the correct fare is deducted. For short visits a contactless bank card or the DOT/mobile app tickets are often simpler than buying a Rejsekort.

Denmark drives on the right. EU driving licences are accepted, and visitors from elsewhere should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. Roads are well maintained, but note that cities like Copenhagen are compact and cycle-friendly, so a car is often unnecessary for city stays. Watch for many cyclists and toll bridges such as the Øresund and Storebælt.

DSB (Danske Statsbaner), the national rail operator, runs frequent intercity trains linking Copenhagen with Odense, Aarhus and Aalborg. Book online for cheaper Orange fares. The Öresund train crosses the bridge to Malmö in Sweden in under an hour, making Denmark and southern Sweden easy to combine. Long-distance coaches (e.g. FlixBus) are a budget alternative.

Denmark is small, so domestic flights are few and mostly serve longer hops such as Copenhagen to Aalborg or Bornholm. For most routes the train is quicker overall once you factor in airport time, and is greener. Consider flying only when crossing the whole country or reaching remote islands.

Buy your ticket before boarding, as little or no cash is accepted on public transport. Cycling is a great way to get around Copenhagen, but respect the busy bike lanes and signal your turns. Allow extra time in winter, when snow or ice can cause delays, and remember toll bridges when driving. If you use app tickets, activate them before you travel.
