Jamaica uses 110–120V / 50Hz with Type A and Type B sockets (North American flat pins). Travellers from Europe, Asia and other 220–240V regions need a Type A/B adapter, and a converter for devices that are not dual-voltage.

The main operators are Digicel and Flow (Cable & Wireless), with solid 4G/LTE coverage in towns and along the resort coasts. Prepaid tourist SIMs are sold at the airport arrivals area and at carrier shops; bring your passport, as ID is required for registration.

For eSIM-capable phones, an international travel eSIM (such as Airalo) is a convenient option: buy a Jamaica or Caribbean plan online before arrival and install it in minutes, with no physical SIM or shop visit. It is handy for staying connected the moment you land.

Free Wi-Fi is common in resorts, hotels, cafés and restaurants, and all-inclusive resorts usually offer property-wide Wi-Fi. Speeds are generally fine for messaging and browsing but can slow at busy times or in remote areas. Use a VPN on public networks for sensitive tasks like banking.

Jamaica has an open internet with no significant restrictions. All standard apps and services — messaging, social media, maps and streaming — work normally. WhatsApp is especially widespread for everyday chat and calls.

Handy apps include WhatsApp for messaging and calls, Google Maps for navigation and translation apps. Uber is only limited in some cities, so many travellers use local ride-hailing like InDrive or the app of a reputable taxi company such as JUTA. Keep some cash, as not everywhere takes cards.

Jamaica is part of the North American Numbering Plan; the country code is +1 with area codes 876 and 658. App-based calls such as WhatsApp and FaceTime are very common. Save numbers in full international +1 876 (or +1 658) format so they work from any network.
