The main gateway is Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG). Into the city you can take the A1 minibus shuttle, the city bus line 72, an official taxi at a fixed fare booked through the airport taxi desk, or a CarGo car. Agree or fix the fare before you set off, and prefer the official taxi desk over drivers who approach you in the terminal.

Belgrade has a well-developed network of buses, trams and trolleybuses run mainly by GSP, paid for with the BusPlus card. There is no metro yet, though a line is under construction. Other cities rely on buses, sometimes with cash payment or their own local systems.

In Belgrade, public transport is paid with the BusPlus card, which you buy at kiosks and top up with credit or a time pass. Tap the card on the reader when you board a bus, tram or trolleybus. Other cities do not use BusPlus; there you usually pay cash or use a local system.

The national railway Srbija Voz links major cities, and the high-speed Soko service connects Belgrade with Novi Sad quickly. A dense network of long-distance buses reaches almost everywhere, often more frequently than trains, and is the backbone of intercity travel. Book popular routes ahead in peak season.

Domestic flights play a very small role in Serbia. The country is compact, so buses and trains cover intercity travel efficiently and are almost always the practical choice. Air travel matters mainly for international connections through Belgrade rather than for getting around inside the country.

In Belgrade, get a BusPlus card and prefer official metered taxis or CarGo to avoid overcharging, especially at the airport where you should use the official taxi desk. Keep some cash for smaller towns and rural buses, as cards are not accepted everywhere. In winter, allow extra time for possible snow, and long-distance buses are often the most convenient way to reach places without a train.
