Entry Procedures

Visa Requirements
Types of visas required and their conditions
Many nationalities need advance authorization to enter this country. Where required, apply online for the e-Visa on the official portal eservices.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm before you travel; some nationalities are visa-free or use other routes. Rules change, so check the official government sources and your embassy before departure.

Cash Import Limits
Declaration-free limits and procedures for excess amounts
You can bring in foreign currency, but larger amounts of cash should be declared to customs on arrival; carrying undeclared large sums can lead to questioning or seizure. As a practical rule, declare amounts equivalent to about USD 5,000 or more and keep exchange receipts. Rules can change, so check the Zambia Revenue Authority before travelling with significant cash.

Duty-Free Allowances & Restricted Items
Limits on tobacco, alcohol, food, and other goods
Zambia allows a personal duty-free allowance for travellers, typically covering a limited quantity of tobacco (around 200 cigarettes) and a small amount of alcohol (roughly 2.5 litres of wine or spirits) for adults, plus personal effects. Goods clearly for resale are dutiable. Declare anything above the allowance, and keep receipts for valuable items such as cameras to avoid import duty disputes.

Prohibited Items
Items that are strictly forbidden from import
Illegal drugs, weapons and explosives, and counterfeit goods are banned. Zambia strictly controls wildlife products: ivory, rhino horn and many animal and plant items need CITES permits and are usually seized without them. Pornographic material is prohibited. If you carry firearms for a licensed hunt, declare and permit them in advance. When in doubt, declare the item rather than risk a fine or arrest.

Medication Import Rules
Rules for bringing prescription and over-the-counter drugs
Carry prescription medicines in their original labelled packaging with a copy of the prescription or a doctor's letter, especially for strong painkillers or controlled drugs. Bring enough for your whole trip plus a few spare days, as specific brands may be hard to find outside Lusaka. Pack malaria tablets and a basic first-aid kit, and keep medicines in your hand luggage.

Vaccinations & Health Requirements
Required and recommended vaccines for entry
There are no routine mandatory vaccinations to enter Zambia for most travellers, but a yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from or have recently been in a country with yellow fever risk. Health authorities commonly recommend routine vaccines plus hepatitis A and typhoid, and malaria prevention is strongly advised. See a travel clinic four to six weeks before departure.
