From Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), most visitors reach Bridgetown and the west/south coast hotels by taxi or a pre-arranged hotel transfer, roughly 20–40 minutes depending on your resort. Taxis are not metered, so agree the fare before you set off. Public buses also serve the airport but are less practical with luggage.

Barbados has three main types of bus: the government-run Transport Board buses (usually blue), privately operated minibuses (yellow) and the shared ZR vans (white with a maroon stripe). All charge a low flat fare per ride and cover most of the island, radiating from Bridgetown. There is no metro or tram.

There is no rechargeable IC transit card in Barbados. On government Transport Board buses you pay the flat fare in exact cash or with a token; minibuses and ZR vans are paid in cash to the conductor or driver. Carry small change in Barbadian dollars, as large notes may not be accepted.

Taxis are plentiful and identified by a "Z" on the licence plate, but they are not metered, so agree the fare before departing; rates to common destinations are often posted at the airport. Ride-hailing apps are limited on the island, so hotels can usually call a reliable taxi for you.

Renting a car gives freedom to explore, but remember that Barbados drives on the left. Visitors need a visitor's driving permit, which rental firms can usually arrange on your behalf for a small fee using your home licence. Roads can be narrow and winding away from main routes, so drive cautiously.

Barbados is a small island (about 34 km long), so "intercity" travel means moving between towns and parishes rather than long distances. Buses, minibuses and ZR vans link Bridgetown with the coasts and countryside, and a rented car or taxi is the easiest way to reach quieter spots. There are no trains.

Barbados has no domestic flight network, as the island is small enough to cross by road in about an hour. Grantley Adams International (BGI) is the sole airport and serves as a regional hub, with short flights to other Caribbean islands rather than internal routes.

Remember that traffic drives on the left and taxis have no meters, so agree the fare and check whether it is in Barbadian or US dollars before you set off. Carry small change for buses, plan around bus timings outside peak hours, and take care on narrow rural roads. A car or taxi is easiest for reaching quieter beaches.
