The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is not the type of hotel that connects directly to a large shopping mall.
However, the surrounding location is very convenient.
It is about a 3-minute walk from the nearest station, BTS Ratchadamri.
Because you can use the BTS, it is an easy base for getting around when sightseeing or shopping in Bangkok.
In addition, about a 5-minute walk from the hotel takes you to CentralWorld and BIG C, two of Bangkok's landmark shopping spots, as well as the famous Erawan Shrine, well known as a power spot.
CentralWorld and BIG C Are Also Within Walking Distance
The area around CentralWorld has not only shopping malls but also many restaurants and cafés.
So you can do more than just relax at the hotel; it is also convenient for popping out to shop, grab a meal, or stroll around Bangkok.
I think it is an easy place to stay for a trip where you want to enjoy the hotel but also do some Bangkok sightseeing.
Booking With American Express FHR
This time I booked through American Express FHR (Fine Hotels + Resorts).
What I was especially grateful for on this stay was the early check-in.
Some flights arrive in Bangkok in the early morning, and this time I reached the hotel at around 6 a.m.
I assumed a normal check-in would be difficult at that hour. While an upgrade was not available, they kindly let me check in from 6 a.m.
Since I was quite short on sleep after an early-morning arrival, this really helped.
Rather than heading straight out to sightsee, I was able to rest in the room first, so I could start my Bangkok stay without pushing myself.
Rooms and Amenities at the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok
The room had the calm, refined atmosphere you would expect from a luxury hotel.
What stood out to me personally were the amenities provided in the bathroom and elsewhere.
Salvatore Ferragamo Bathroom Amenities
The bathroom amenities were from Salvatore Ferragamo.
I really liked the fragrance, and it suited my taste perfectly, so I remember the room smelling great the whole time I was there (laughs).
Hotel amenities are often something you only use briefly during a stay, but being able to enjoy them right down to the brand and the fragrance feels very much like a luxury-hotel touch.
Butler Service Is Also Available
The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok also appears to offer butler service.
This time I did not use it at all, partly because I am not very confident with English.
If you are comfortable communicating in English, I think you can enjoy your stay even more by including services like this.
A Whole Coconut in the Refrigerator
Another thing that stayed with me about the room was the whole coconut inside the refrigerator.
It was set up so you could drink coconut juice.
I thought I would give it a try, but whether the cut was too shallow or I just did not open it well, I ended up unable to get it open (laughs).
It was a fun, distinctly Bangkok-style in-room touch.
The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok Pool
The hotel also has a pool that guests can use.
The pool has a distinctive structure that looks like a streamlined roof, giving it a unique atmosphere within the hotel.
From the pool you can see scenery typical of central Bangkok, including CentralWorld.
The Green Scenery Seen From the Pool Is Striking
Something I personally liked a lot was the green scenery spreading out right in front of the hotel.
There is a park-like area that looks a bit like a horse-racing track or a golf driving range, so even in central Bangkok with all its high-rises, I could enjoy an open, spacious view.
Around the year-end and New Year period, when fireworks go up around CentralWorld, it seems like it could be a nice spot to watch them from the hotel.
The Pool Also Feels Suited to Families
That said, the pool itself is not a huge pool like those at large resort hotels.
There is a shallower pool for children toward the front, and the far side did not feel especially deep either; as I recall, the water came to a bit above waist height.
For that reason, rather than "quietly enjoying the pool as adults only," I felt it also has a family-friendly atmosphere where adults and children can use it together.
If the pool is your single most important factor in choosing a hotel, I think it is worth checking this point in advance.
Is There a Club Lounge? The Lounge Situation at the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok
When choosing a luxury hotel, some people want to enjoy drinks and light bites in a club lounge.
The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok does not have the kind of club lounge you find at many hotels.
So if your goal for a hotel stay is to relax with drinks and snacks in a lounge, you may find it a little lacking.
That said, there are restaurants, a bar, and a café within the hotel.
There is no club lounge, but options for enjoying meals, drinks, and tea time inside the hotel are firmly in place.
A Rich Variety at Breakfast, Including Truffle-Scented Eggs Benedict
The breakfast venue at the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is a white-toned space with a clean feel.
There was a wide variety of dishes, which is great for anyone who wants a proper meal in the morning.
The Memorable Truffle Eggs Benedict
What stood out most was the Eggs Benedict with the aroma of truffle.
Being able to enjoy the scent of truffle right from breakfast was something I personally liked a lot.
When staying at a luxury hotel, breakfast is one of the pleasures alongside the room itself.
At the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, breakfast was something I could enjoy as part of the overall stay.
Peacock Alley's Afternoon Tea Is Also Popular
Inside the hotel there is a café-and-bar space called Peacock Alley.
Afternoon tea is popular at Peacock Alley.
For anyone who wants to spend a relaxed tea time at the hotel, I think it is a place worth checking.
Especially for a couples' trip to Bangkok or a trip with female friends, enjoying afternoon tea as a travel memory seems like a nice idea.
Bangkok sightseeing often revolves around visiting temples and shopping spots, but making time to relax at the hotel during your trip is also something I would recommend.
Who Is the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok Right For?
What I felt from actually staying there is that the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is an easy hotel to use for anyone who wants to combine Bangkok sightseeing and shopping with a luxury hotel stay.
Since it is about a 3-minute walk from BTS Ratchadamri Station, a key point is how easy it is to use as a base for getting around the city.
On top of that, CentralWorld, BIG C, and the Erawan Shrine are easy to reach on foot, so it is also convenient for people who want to head out and enjoy Bangkok.
At the same time, with a pool, restaurants, a bar, and Peacock Alley inside the hotel, you can also make time to relax on the property.
On this stay in particular, being able to check in from 6 a.m. was extremely helpful.
Because I was short on sleep after an early-morning arrival, being able to rest at the hotel first let me start the rest of my Bangkok stay with ease.

On the other hand, there is no club lounge, and the pool is not the large-resort type.
So when choosing a hotel, "what you want to stay for" is likely to be the key point.
It is an easy location to use for people who want to enjoy walking around Bangkok and shopping while also securing time to spend at a luxury hotel.
Conversely, if you want a hotel stay centered on a club lounge or a large pool, comparing it with other nearby hotels before deciding is a good idea.
On this stay, what stayed with me most was being able to check in from 6 a.m.
Being able to rest at the hotel right after arriving in Bangkok meant I could start the rest of my trip without forcing myself to sightsee while short on sleep.
