Transit Procedures

Transit visa: Not required if remaining in the international transit area (no immigration entry).

Condition: Same-day or next-day connection. Narita and Haneda have transit facilities.

⚠ Shore Pass (up to 72h) available in special circumstances with airline sponsorship.

Facilities: Excellent at Narita and Haneda: duty-free, restaurants, lounges, convenience stores, and cultural exhibits.

Food & drink: Ramen, sushi, bento shops, and international options.

Rest & showers: Shower rooms (paid), capsule hotels at Haneda. Transit hotels at Narita.

Minimum connection time: 75 minutes at Narita. 60 minutes at Haneda for same-terminal.

Terminal change: Narita: free shuttle between T1/T2/T3 (10–15 min). Haneda: all international in T3.

Baggage transfer: Bags transferred on same booking for same-airline or alliance partners.

Re-check required: Required if entering Japan (even with Shore Pass). Not required for airside transit.

Immigration: Not required if remaining airside. Shore Pass may be available for long layovers.

Leaving the airport: Shore Pass (airline-sponsored, up to 72h) allows entering Japan during transit. Not guaranteed.

⚠ Shore Pass is at immigration officer's discretion. Not a right.

Airport hotel: Nine Hours capsule hotel at Narita T2. Royal Park Hotel at Haneda T3.

Sleep options: Capsule hotels, shower rooms (paid). Transit hotels at Narita for early morning flights.

• Narita has excellent ramen and sushi at reasonable prices airside.
• Free WiFi at both Narita and Haneda.
• Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson) in the terminal for affordable food.
• Japanese yen needed; IC cards (Suica/PASMO) sold at airports.
