Bangkok’s Chinatown, Yaowarat, is one of the city’s best-known food districts. At night, neon signs light up Yaowarat Road and the area fills with locals and travelers looking for Chinese-Thai specialties. Shark fin soup is one of the dishes most strongly associated with this neighborhood.

This time, I visited Hua Seng Hong Yaowarat, a long-established and well-known restaurant located right in the heart of Chinatown. I ordered shark fin soup, shrimp fried rice, and seafood rice vermicelli. What impressed me most was the generous amount of shark fin in the soup.

Hua Seng Hong, a famous restaurant in the heart of Yaowarat

Hua Seng Hong is located along busy Yaowarat Road. It is only a few minutes on foot from Hengdee Shark Fin Soup, another shark fin restaurant I visited in Chinatown, making it easy to compare different styles in the same area.

The restaurant has seating areas toward both the front and rear. The bright red sign is an easy landmark when walking through Yaowarat.

📍 Where is Hua Seng Hong Yaowarat?

Address: 371–373 Yaowarat Road, Samphanthawong, Bangkok 10100, Thailand

Shark fin and Chinese dishes being prepared at the storefront

One of the first things you notice is the cooking area at the front of the restaurant. Shark fin soup and other dishes are prepared where passersby can see them, adding to the lively Chinatown atmosphere.

Takeaway foods such as steamed buns are also sold near the storefront. Even before entering, there is plenty to look at.

Three shark fin soup price options

At the time of my visit, shark fin soup was available at three prices: 440 baht, 660 baht, and 1,320 baht. This makes it possible to choose according to your budget and appetite.

Menus and prices can change, so please check the latest information when visiting.

The amount of shark fin was especially impressive

The biggest surprise was the quantity of shark fin. Compared with many shark fin soups I have tried, the bowl felt particularly generous, and the shark fin had a clear presence rather than feeling like a small garnish.

If the amount of shark fin matters to you, this is one of the strongest reasons to consider Hua Seng Hong.

A clear soy-based soup with crab and seafood umami

The soup was a clear, soy-based style rather than an extremely heavy or rich broth. Crab meat added sweetness and seafood flavor, while the overall taste remained easy to enjoy until the last spoonful.

It should appeal to a wide range of diners, including people trying shark fin soup for the first time.

Shrimp fried rice

I also ordered shrimp fried rice. The seasoning was straightforward and approachable, with shrimp adding satisfying flavor and texture.

It is an easy dish to share and a good choice for both children and adults.

Seafood rice vermicelli

The seafood rice vermicelli was another easy-to-eat dish, combining thin noodles with seafood flavors without becoming overly heavy.

Together with the fried rice, it makes Hua Seng Hong practical for groups where not everyone wants to order shark fin soup.

There is much more than shark fin

Hua Seng Hong offers a broad selection of Chinese and seafood dishes in addition to shark fin soup. That variety is part of the restaurant’s appeal: you can build a full meal around several shared dishes rather than visiting only for one specialty.

If you are exploring Yaowarat, it is worth stopping by at least once. Look for the distinctive red sign along Yaowarat Road.

Payment

At the time of my visit, payment was cash only. Payment methods can change, so it is a good idea to carry Thai baht and confirm the latest options at the restaurant.

Summary

Hua Seng Hong Yaowarat is a convenient choice for travelers who want to try shark fin soup in the center of Bangkok’s Chinatown. The generous amount of shark fin, clear soy-based soup with crab, and wide selection of familiar Chinese dishes make it approachable for many types of diners.

The shrimp fried rice and seafood rice vermicelli were also easy to enjoy, so the restaurant works well for families and groups. When walking through Yaowarat, use the red Hua Seng Hong sign as your landmark and consider adding it to your Chinatown food itinerary.
